When violence broke out during protests in May, many businesses in Downtown Raleigh were broken into and stolen from or vandalized. Afterward, business owners, along with many volunteers, spent a lot of effort rebuilding, sweeping glass, and replacing broken windows with plywood. As a result, Raleigh was made into a canvas for the views and emotions of the many artists and allies of the Black Lives Matter movement. Beautiful and powerful artwork was painted all over Raleigh. As Jaki Shelton Green said, the artwork was a way for truth that had been hidden from so many for centuries to be set free.
