Azaria Anderson, Research Triangle High School ’22

I’m Azaria Anderson and I’m a Junior at RTHS. Drum Majors for Justice has empowered me to want to do something about the injustices and discrimination that people face every day. It has given me a path to become more aware of myself and those around me. I want to do something to stop unjustified and unwarranted ridicule, judgment, prejudice, and discrimination toward people because of their race, sexual orientation, gender, religion, or cultural practices. My generation, the people around me, and in this group, inspire me every day to work hard to better myself and the things that I feel need improvement. I can’t just sit back and watch as discrimination occurs, because those who do so are part of the problem. That’s why I’m a part of this group

Cooper Beebe, Athens Drive High School ’24

My name is Cooper Beebe, I’m 14 years old and I’m in my freshman year of high school at Athens Drive. I joined this project because during my 8th-grade year I did lots of work on racism through the Real Americans service-learning project.

Minnah Gaballah, Leesville Road High School ’23

My name is Minnah Gaballah, and I’m a student who goes to Leesville Road High School and will be graduating in 2023. I’m a Muslim woman who joined the Drum Majors for Social Justice because I want to be able to help share stories with others and because I am dedicated to fighting for social justice and peace.

Ethan Harris, Research Triangle High School ’22

My name is Ethan Harris and I’m a junior at Research Triangle High School in RTP. The reason I’m in this group is because for years I have worked on racial injustice in North Carolina. After seeing the continuous acts of discrimination groups still face today, it pushes me and hopefully pushes others to finally make change in any way possible.

Sophia Norris, South Garner High School ’22

Hi, my name is Sophia Norris and I am a junior at South Garner High School. I am participating in this project to help evolve my community the way it should be. I want the future generations to see that change IS possible no matter who you are, how old you are, or what you look like.

And last, but certainly not least is the one who brought us all together. The teacher and an amazing human being, Shannon Hardy. Her connections and support have empowered us and given us the means to join and continue to work in this group.

I am a former teacher of many in this group, and one of the many adults in awe of this student group’s work!
